What the F.A.Q?!? (Answers to the questions we get the most)
Weddings are stressful! There is a lot to consider when choosing vendors from various aspects of your wedding day. How can you be certain you have chosen the right vendor for the job? Whether it’s your Photographer, Caterer, DJ, Wedding Planner, Venue or various other services, there are always the good, the bad, and the worse!
While we would never claim to be the best at what we do, I will say that we are pretty darn good. We work hard to make your Photography experience as fun and stress free as possible. That’s our style. We like laid back couples who want to have a little fun with their images. Maybe we are for you, maybe we aren’t.
I thought I would post the 10 most commonly asked questions along with our answers. I you like our response, then let’s get together and chat about your wedding. If not, that’s cool too… We know that our style and personalities are a fit for everyone. So here are our top 10 Wedding FAQ’s!
How long have you been in business?
This year is Valley Photography’s 4th year of being open.
How far in advance do I need to book with you?
It’s never too early to book a Photographer. Usually about 10-12 months for a wedding is about average. Anything less than 6 months and you will likely have issues finding the Photographer you really want.
Do you have a portfolio I can review? Are all of the images yours, and is the work recent?
We have an online portfolio available on www.valleyphoto.ca and we often upload images to our Facebook page.
What information do you need from me before the wedding day?
In order to book with us, we require a booking fee and a wedding or portrait agreement.
If my event lasts longer than expected, will you stay? Is there an additional charge?
Absolutely, we’re ready to stay as long as you need us!
What type of equipment do you use?
We use top of the line professional Canon photography equipment. We also have multiple speedlites for dramatic off camera lighting in any lighting situation.
Do you have backup equipment?
Absolutely. You should never hire a Photographer that does not have backup equipment. And their backup equipment should be professional quality as well.
Are you photographing other events on the same day as mine?
If we’re shooting your wedding, absolutely not! We are fully committed to your big day. We may book more than one portrait session in a day if time permits.
If my wedding site is out of your area, do you charge a travel fee and what does that cover?
We do charge a travelling and lodging fee if leaving the greater Saint John area. This covers our fuel costs as well as lodging for the night. It is our policy never to drive home after long day of shooting a wedding out of our home area. We spend hours at each wedding with 40+ lbs of equipment on our backs, which leaves us completely exhausted by the end of the day!
Is it okay if other people take photos while you're taking photos?
We have no objection to guests taking photos of the day. We have, however, noticed an alarming increase in the amount of guests holding up ipads and cell phones during the ceremony. It may not seem like a big deal, but consider this… You are at the alter pledging your undying love to one another… We take a beautiful shot of the whole church to show the emotion of the moment and your guests whose eyes are locked on you both as you recite your vows… But they are not locked on you; they are experiencing your wedding through their LCD screens!!! You may want to consider having an unplugged wedding, where your guests put away their devices and enjoy being in the moment with you. You can always make our images available to whoever you like. At the very least, it should be common practice to ask your guests to stay seated unless directed otherwise, and to stay out of the isle. Otherwise they risk ruining that stunning shot of the entire church!
Packages, Proofs & Prints
What packages do you offer?
We have a few options or packages and accessories. Each of our packages includes an allotted amount of coverage, a free engagement session, and time spent editing your images so they look as great as possible. Other options include Custom Hard Cover Photo Books, Gallery Wraps, Fine Art Murals, Vivid Metal Wall Art.
Do you include engagement photos in your packages?
Yes! Every package includes a complimentary Engagement Session. Not only are these great for invitations and wedding websites, but it’s a great chance for us to all work together. Think of it as a trial run before the big day!
What type of album designs do you offer? Do you provide any assistance in creating an album?
We offer top of the line Signature Photo Books made from Miller’s Lab. They are only available to Professional Photographers and are unlike anything you can find locally. We also custom design your book for you in a chronological order, so it reads like a story. A great way to show off your images from start to finish!
How long after the wedding will I get the proofs? Will they be viewable online? On a CD?
Your images will be made available to you in three phases. First, shortly after your wedding we will create a small sneak peek album on our Facebook page that you can share with your family in friends. Within two weeks, we will create an online teaser gallery which will contain about 100-150 of your images. This is a private online gallery, from which you can download low or high resolution images, and share them to Facebook and other social media right from the gallery! After that, the remainder of your images will be edited, which takes about 4-6 weeks. You will receive the final images on a Custom USB Stick.
Will you give me the negatives or the digital images, and is there a fee for that?
You will receive all of your edited images on a USB Stick. They are included with your fee, and you are free to do with them as you please. We will not provide RAW or unedited images under any circumstances.
Contract & Policies
When will I receive a written contract? TIP: Don't book a photographer—or any vendor—who won't provide a written contract.
We will provide you with a contract to fill out at our first consultation. We reserve your date once we receive it back filled out and signed, along with the required deposit. A deposit and agreement are required to book wedding and portrait sessions with us.
How much of a deposit do you require and when is it due? Do you offer a payment plan?
Currently the wedding deposit is $400, and the portrait deposit is $50.
What is your refund/cancellation policy?
Deposits are considered payment against loss of income. In the event that the date is cancelled, it is 100% non-refundable, as we will likely not be able to rebook that date in time to recoup the loss of income. If the date of the session changes, and we are available, we will happily change your booking date to accommodate you. If the date changes and we are not available, once again, the deposit would be applied as a payment to cover our loss of income for the day. We certainly can arrange a payment plan if necessary!
Questions to ask yourself (Possibly the most important questions!)
Do I feel a connection with this photographer as well as his/her photos? Are our personalities a good match?
To us, this is one of the most important questions. Meshing well with your Photographer(s) is vital if you want to have an enjoyable time having your photos done. You are with your Photographer ALL DAY, and conflicts with personality or expectations can make for a long hard day. We also examine the relationship between ourselves and our clients, and in rare instances were differences seem extreme, we reserve the right not to book the session.
Am I comfortable with this person's work and communication style?
This is important so we don’t clash in the way we convey information. Sometimes words or tones can be taken in the wrong context, so working with people that you feel comfortable with goes a long way to minimizing misunderstandings. We are relaxed, down to earth people, and that’s who we work best with.
