The Most Photographed Generation Will Have No Photos in 10 YEARS!!!

I read this blog post recently from Photographer Mike Yost out of Florida and it really got me thinking. Basically, he's claiming that our generation prints less photos then any before. We photograph everything, but place no value on our images. Most photos we snap with digital media are not ever viewed again. What's worse is that we snap away, with ultimate confidence that our images will always be accessible. I'm guilty... I have folder upon folders of photos that tell the story of my life on my computer. Sure, I have every intention of printing them out, but I never do. I'm not alone. Mike Yost's post estimates only 1 in every 100,000 photos is actually printed!!! THAT'S CRAZY!

We all need to treat our photographs as the unique, one of a kind masterpieces they are. They deserve more then to be stored in digital obscurity. It's time to take back history, and to proudly display the greatest moments of our lives. What can you do? You can start by making sure you print your photos. Buy those prints and albums from your Photographer. It may seem like a costly investment, but photographs only grow in value with age. Do not ever assume your technology will always be there to view your digital files. Technology is fleeting, and changes faster then we can keep up with. Who knows if you will have the technology to view a DVD or USB Stick in 5 or 10 years. And you can be sure that your crappy digital camera or even crappier smartphone will have long since given up the ghost. PRINT YOUR PHOTOS!!!
